The Role: Casual (Located in Mt Gambier/Limestone Coast, 5 Hours South East of Adelaide)
Baptist Care SA are looking for passionate and engaging Residential Child and Youth Workers to join us on a casual basis working across various houses in Mt Gambier. You will provide a safe and nurturing environment to children and young people under the Guardian of the Chief Executive through the Department of Child Protection. This is a rewarding role where you will be able to positively influence the lives of young people and make a difference.
Your duties will involve, but won’t be limited to:
- Working within a team to meet client needs
- Providing support to children and young people, such as school drop offs and pickups, supporting daily activities like cooking and cleaning, assisting with homework, and enriching their lives by being a positive role model and creating a sense of home
- Managing and responding to difficult and at times aggressive behaviours using trauma informed care and holistic client-centered practice
- Completing administration tasks including case notes, mandatory reporting, and handovers
Applicants must be able to work active and passive overnight shifts on a 24/7 roster and have the ability to pick up at least 3 shifts per week.
About you:
First and foremost, you are passionate about children and young people and understand the role of a Youth Worker as one of significant importance in their lives. You are a friendly and approachable person who knows how to create a safe and nurturing environment for those who have experienced trauma and neglect. You are able to engage with children and young people through effective role modelling and empowering them to harness practical and social skills that will better equip them for adult life.
You will also have the following skills and experience:
- Ability to work in a team environment, while also being able to work independently
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to work well in high pressured situations and practice self-care
- Ability to work in various locations across Adelaide, as well as travel up to an hour to work in a residential house
- Possess a roadworthy vehicle with the willingness to transport clients for work purposes in own car
Specific employment requirements:
To be considered for this role, you must also have one of the following:
A completed Certificate IV OR Diploma in:
- Child, Youth and Family Intervention
- Youth Work
- Community Services
- Mental Health
- Disability
Applicants will be required to have or obtain the below:
- Provide First Aid (HTLAID0011)
- Safe Environments for Children and Young People (Through their eyes)
- Provisional (P2) or Full South Australia Driver’s Licence
- Valid DHS Working with Children Check
- Valid NDIS Worker Screening
- Valid National Police Clearance
- Complete and pass a legislatively mandated Psychological Suitability Assessment
- Complete a Road Worthy certificate
