Casual position at Kangaroo Island

The Opportunity: 

Are you passionate about bringing a positive change in the lives of the youth of South Australia? If so, we are looking to hire a passionate and motivated individual to work on a casual basis in the Youth Hub Worker role based in our Kangaroo Island Office.

This role will establish an after-school Youth Hub to provide a safe environment for youth aged 12 to 16 years to participate in a range of formal and informal programs and events to build social connection, knowledge, skills, and confidence. Although the Youth Hub will be located at the Kangaroo Island Community Centre in Kingscote it will be accessible to youth island wide. The initial 12 months focus will be to co-design a program of events and activities with young people to support active engagement and a sense of belonging for young people.

In this role, you will deliver program/activity/activities e.g. forums, workshops, awareness raising activities etc., in collaboration with young people. Working alongside the Kangaroo Island Community Centre you will also establish a youth community advisory group with attendees of the Youth Hub to plan ongoing program/activity/activities. Another aspect of this role is to capture process and impact data from activity/activities and collate to support reporting on selected process and impact measures.  

This role is funded by the Alcohol Drug Foundation (ADF), the primary objective of the Local Drug Action Team (LDAT) program is for the Youth Hub Worker to activate the Youth Hub and create a supportive and safe environment where youth can participate in a range of formal and informal programs and events to build knowledge, skills, and confidence. 

About You:

We are seeking a self-motivated and passionate individual who:

  • Has the ability to work professionally and maintain strict confidentiality
  • Has the ability to work in a team environment and follow direction
  • Has sound verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Has an understanding of appropriate responses to clients with behaviours that demonstrate high and complex needs
  • Has an understanding of the needs of adolescents at risk
  • Has demonstrated experience in maintaining records
  • Has an understanding of social justice principles, including equity of access, discrimination and equal opportunity, individuals’ rights and privacy
  • Holds Youth Work, Community Services or equivalent (or working towards) and/or demonstrated similar working experience.   

You Will Need To:

  • Hold a current Safe Environments Certificate
  • Hold a current unencumbered Australian driver’s licence and be willing to drive
