About the Transport and Drainage Branch:

The Transport and Drainage Planning Branch (TDP) forms part of the Infrastructure Services Group (ISG) and is committed to ensuring that Toowoomba Region’s infrastructure networks and assets are developed and managed in a coordinated and integrated manner and that Toowoomba Region has well-planned, safe and functional transportation and drainage systems. TDP is made up of six sections: Asset Management, Drainage Planning, Transport Planning, Design and Survey, Road Operations and Aerodrome Operations. 

About the position:

The Civil Designer position provides technical and consultative support, including expert advice in civil design, investigations and documentation within a wide range of civil engineering project areas in accordance with appropriate technical standards and quality systems. 

  • This is a permanent full-time position based in the heart of the Toowoomba CBD.
  • The annual salary range for this position is $77,223.52 - $87,970.19 gross per annum (depending on level of experience that you bring to the role), plus 17.5% annual leave loading and up to 12.65% superannuation.

How to be successful in this position:

  • Hold the mandatory qualification(s), training and/or experience, as outlined under the 'Success Criteria' in the Position Description.
  • Demonstrated skills and comprehensive knowledge in relevant technical, project management and business software packages and computer aided design and drafting packages including AutoCAD, 12D Model, PC Drain, Perfect Lite and other relevant design software.
  • Extensive experience and knowledge in the area of local government and civil engineering both urban and rural design and drafting, stormwater drainage design, traffic engineering design, cost estimates and specifications to enable a wide range and depth of work to be undertaken.
  • Demonstrated time management skills including the ability to lead and coach a team, establish project priorities, plan and monitor own work and establish outcomes to achieve Branch/Council goals.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to apply a high level of knowledge and skills of relevant processes, procedures, policies and activities.
  • Thorough knowledge of requirements for design of urban and rural civil engineering infrastructure relating in particular to roadworks and stormwater drainage design in a local government environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise with customers, the public, engineering consultants and contractors, utility service authorities and other stakeholders as required within the scope of the project to ensure quality and time delivery of engineering design and documentation.
  • Understanding and Commitment to Council's Organisational Values and Behaviours in Teamwork.
