Job description

Position: General Class Assistant - Primary

Contract: Permanent part-time term-time, plus two days

Hours: 31.25 hours per week

Starting: Term 2 Monday, 15 April 2024 (Plus two pupil-free days: early January each year)

About the Role

We seek an enthusiastic, committed and suitably qualified teacher’s assistant for a primary composite class. This position's start date is Term 2 2024, and the hours are 31.25 hours per week during term time (40.4 weeks per year inclusive of two pupil-free days outside term time). Working hours are 8:15am-3pm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and 8am-2:45pm on Tuesdays.

We offer the following Montessori programmes:

• Montessori Independent Toddler Community (15 months – 3 year olds)

• Children's House (3 – 6 year olds)

• Lower Primary (6 – 9 year olds)

Upper Primary (9 – 12 year olds)

• Middle School & Year 10 (12 – 16 year olds)

Our school follows the Montessori National Curriculum and is fully mapped to the Australian Curriculum, providing a child-centred pedagogical model that caters to individualized and independent learning while respecting the child's social, emotional, and intellectual development.

To be successful, you will:

  • Have experience implementing specific skill-based intervention programs (literacy and numeracy).
  • Possess good interpersonal skills and is self-motivated.
  • Be able to communicate effectively and build relationships with students, colleagues, and the broader school community.
  • Be willing to work as part of a small team and under the supervision of the Head of Primary.
  • Demonstrate a proven ability to work with Class Directors to support differentiation and adjustments.
  • Possess an ability to listen to, relate to and understand children and respond appropriately.
  • Display flexibility in adapting to changing routines and teaching/learning situations.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and confidentiality appropriately.
  • Having a commitment to working within the Montessori philosophy and practice is essential. (Current Montessori qualifications are preferred, not vital. However, you must be willing to complete the appropriate Montessori Assistant’s course within the first three months of engagement).

You must hold a minimum of:

  • Certificate III in Education Support or Teacher’s Assistant/Aide training, preferable.
  • Montessori qualifications, preferable.
  • Positive Notice Blue card (working with children check) is essential.
  • Experience and/or working with children is essential.
  • Current First Aid and CPR Qualifications (HLTAID012 & HLTAID009) are essential.
