ABOUT THE ROLE

As one of the first contact points for people accessing Counselling and Wellbeing support, our Intake Officers need to build a positive rapport with a wide range of people, as well as their family, friends and/or carers. This is a critical role for the Counselling and Wellbeing team. The purpose of this position is to support people to make the most appropriate link to services and programs, both internal and external to Gateway Health.

You will be a part of the Client Services Intake Team whose overall aim is to facilitate safe, seamless, and responsive access of clients to a variety of service options appropriate to their needs.

The Intake Team supports clients to initiate their health and wellbeing journeys through engagement, initial needs identification, assessment, advocacy, provision of relevant information and resources, provide brief interventions, and facilitated referrals where appropriate counselling and/or therapeutic models, skills, techniques, and modalities

ABOUT YOU

You will need to be skilled in assessing a person’s needs, including completing risk assessments and the ability to action a plan to mitigate any identified risk. 

You will be a great communicator who pays attention to detail, and who can confidently navigate client management systems. You will be required to clearly document all relevant demographic, contextual and risk assessment information, and work collaboratively with both referrers and services that you refer to, to ensure the best outcome for the client.

We are seeking welcoming, professional, and committed individuals, with the following attributes:

  • Tertiary level qualifications in health, behavioural/social sciences, community services, or a related discipline that provides a sound understanding and knowledge of assessing and working with people at risk.
  • Skilled in intake, screening, and psychosocial assessments to identify client needs assessments, facilitating service access, providing therapeutic interventions, and participating in care planning.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment, coordinating client care.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a diverse range of clients, colleagues, and partner organisations.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritise and manage multiple and competing work tasks and deliver to agreed deadlines.
  • Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
