The Bureau's Research Program sits in the Science and Innovation Group and is the main driver of science-based innovation in the Bureau of Meteorology. In supporting the Bureau to deliver impactful weather, climate, ocean and water information services, the research contributes to advancing meteorological and earth system sciences in Australia and globally. Research activities cover the broad fields of weather, climate, oceanography, earth systems modelling, data set development, process studies, and application development.
The Seamless Prediction Science Section of the Bureau's Research Program is seeking an outstanding Data Scientist to support research to improve understanding of past and future climate change and climate variability in the Australian region. You will be a member of a team that contributes to research programmes including on climate variability and change, and the development of climate services for Australia.
You will support research into climate change and climate variability with a focus on Australian weather and climate. You will analyse and manage gridded observational data and extremely large data sets based on output from climate models using a variety of sophisticated statistical techniques. You will support the data and programming activities of a team of climate scientists. Your contributions will be used to improve understanding of past and future climate change and climate variability and extremes in the Australian region.
