The Role:
The Clinical Lead, Neuro-oncology Consultant Paediatric Oncologist (Solid Tumours/Neuro-Oncology Stream) provides oversight of, and expertise in the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based and family-centred clinical care for children with central nervous system (CNS) malignancies. This role delivers strong and supportive supervision of trainee and junior medical staff, and has key responsibility for contribution to the education and research programs of the Children’s Cancer Centre (CCC). The Consultant Paediatric Neuro-Oncologist/Oncologist works with other Clinical Stream Leaders e.g. Solid Tumours, Leukaemia, and Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT), and other consultant oncologists to support the Director, CCC to meet key strategic and operational objectives of the service, aligned with RCH's vision of a world where all kids thrive.
This role is recruiting up to 1.0 FTE for a fixed term of 3 years.
You will be responsible for:
Strong leadership and expertise in the delivery high-quality, best-practice oncology care to children and adolescents with CNS and solid tumour malignancies (with a focus on CNS tumours), and their families
Working collaboratively with Clinical Stream Leads and other CCC oncology clinicians to facilitate clinical service improvement through clinical audit and research, and promotion of a positive research culture
Representation of both the CCC and the RCH at conferences in the field of paediatric neuro-oncology and contribution to relevant appropriate internal and external committees and organisations
Active contribution to key departmental, divisional, hospital or program e.g. Paediatric Integrated Cancer Services (PICS) strategic and operational initiatives
Participation in the development department and personal priority goals and objectives consistent with the mission, philosophy and strategic plan of the organisation
Ensuring that trainees and other medical specialities receive the appropriate education and training in collaboration with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and University of Melbourne (UoM)
You will have:
FRACP or equivalent College Fellowship
Specialist Medical Registration with AHPRA
Demonstrated excellence in the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based paediatric oncology clinical care to children, and their families
Fellowship training and/or Senior Consultant experience in paediatric neuro-oncology
Commitment to patient and family centred approach to care
Demonstrated ability to contribute to or enhance existing research skills within MCRI and the RCH. Candidates with an advanced research degree and/or postdoctoral research training in paediatric neuro-oncology are encouraged to apply.
Sound ability to build and enhance internal and external partnerships/relationships
Advanced interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) to gain cooperation and influence others in achieving scientific goals and building collaboration
The Department:
The RCH Children's Cancer Centre (CCC) is the largest partner in the Victorian Paediatric Integrated Cancer Services (PICS) and is a member of the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Care program. The CCC is the only provider of complex children's cancer care and stem cell transplantation in the State of Victoria. The CCC aims for the highest standards in diagnosis, research, treatment, and support. The RCH CCC comprises: an inpatient ward with designated bone marrow transplant beds; a day oncology unit; outpatient clinic area including allied health facilities; a dedicated oncology pharmacy; a family facility; a research program with state-of-the-art laboratory facilities; a clinical trials office and an administrative centre.
