The Role:
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Senior ICU Specialist/Intensivist Clinical Lead – Intensive Care, to work in a beautiful coastal region.

This role will require the successful applicant to work with the Clinical Director - Acute Medicine and assist with providing a high level of strategic leadership and direction, ensuring resources are efficiently utilised, services are effectively integrated within the hospital/service and the highest standards of service delivery are achieved in accordance with hospital/service policy directions, service standards and financial targets.

An impressive remuneration package of up to $570, 000 p.a

The ICU is a CICM level 2 facility and accredited for basic, elective and foundation components of ICU training with ventilatory, circulatory and renal support.

It is an eight-bed facility with one isolation bed, with beds dedicated to Coronary Care, Intensive Care, Surgical High Dependency and Medical High Dependency.  Patients are referred from the Department of Emergency Medicine, within the Region from other hospitals. The unit is complimented with trained ICU nursing staff and junior medical officers.  

The two hospital both have busy emergency and general medical departments. Both Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Paediatrics are primarily located at the NWRH. There are anaesthetic services provided at both sites however primarily based at NWRH. A busy general orthopaedic and general surgical service is based at NWRH with the MCH providing predominately day surgery cases.

The DoH offers a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program, with close ties to the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School.  As such, you will be responsible for providing leadership and help with the delivery of the Undergraduate general medical education program.

The Service:
The health service has the main acute 160 bed teaching Hospital (with a rural clinical school attached) and a 70 bed Private Hospital, the other acute Hospital is located a short distance away and has 130 beds.

A busy rural regional hospital with a diverse spread of surgical procedures performed including ENT, Orthopaedic Surgery, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dental Surgery, Endoscopy, Ophthalmology, ECT and a limited amount of Paediatric Surgery.

The Location:
Located in a beautiful seaport city with a population of 20,000 people, this region is un-spoilt and within easy drive of rugged mountains, spectacular wilderness and sparkling highland lakes. Unpolluted coastal seas and rich fertile soils enable local produce to be some of the world's finest foods.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Recent experience working as a specialist medical practitioner in a relevant specialty in an acute setting.
  2. Highly developed communication, consultation, and interpersonal skills.
  3. Demonstrated ability to lead a multidisciplinary team.
  4. Knowledge and understanding of continuous quality improvement principles including employment equity.
  5. Knowledge of occupational safety and health principles including maintaining a Duty of Care.
Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in relevant specialty.
