What you'll be doing
As a Clinical Midwifery Consultant (CMC) for Maternity Services at Auburn Hospital, you will collaborate with staff, specialists, and nurses across the Western Sydney Local Health District. You will offer a consultancy service for mothers and babies, and work in consultation and collaboration with the Women's & Children's Midwife & Nurse Manager to lead relevant local, District, State, and National maternity initiatives. Your responsibilities will also include:
- Providing leadership in the development and enhancement of Maternity Services for women's and children's health.
- Acting as a clinical expert in women's and children's health and a resource to staff.
- Promoting clinical excellence, research, and professional leadership.
- Actively participating in multidisciplinary teams and being involved in care planning.
- Offering expert clinical organisation, coordination, and leadership, while promoting, reviewing, and assessing clinical risk across Maternity Services.
- Undertaking quality activities, including reviewing and developing local high-risk policies and guidelines.
- Liaising closely with Midwifery Managers, CMC/CNC's, Educators, and the Obstetrics and Gynaecology portfolio leads.
- Promoting and facilitating the development and implementation of continuity of care models for maternity service provision.

Essential Criteria:
- Registration: Current and valid registration as a Registered Nurse/Registered Midwife (Division 1) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
Selection Criteria:
- At least five (5) years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least 3 years full time equivalent in Midwifery. Holding or working towards relevant postgraduate tertiary qualifications in a specialty area, education and/or research.
- Demonstrated advanced communication including verbal, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage with clients/consumers, carers and the multidisciplinary health team in a manner than ensures responsiveness of care needs and resolves conflicts when they arise and advanced information technology skills to provide consultancy services and deliver innovative midwifery practice.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively both independently and as part of the multidisciplinary health care team.
- Demonstrated ability to lead quality improvement, practice development and evidence-based practice critical review.
- Demonstrated personal attributes including resilience, accountability, integrity and ability to manage self.
- Demonstrated ability to identify education needs and deliver education for patients/clients and health care professionals.
- Demonstrated ability to function as a senior leader within a complex health organisation.
- Demonstrated ability to use critical thinking and problem solving skills as it relates to the delivery of advanced evidence based Women and Children's Health midwifery.
