About our Team
Based at Perth Children’s Hospital, the Department of Paediatric and Adolescent Oncology and Haematology provide a state-wide service for children and young people (aged 0-16) with cancer, malignant blood disorders, non-malignant blood disorders, and their families.
Comprised of a large multi-disciplinary team, we provide inpatient, same day and outpatient care for. the diagnosis and management of cancer and blood disorders.
We work in close collaboration with other hospitals and participate in clinical trials across national and international networks to facilitate better patient outcomes.
Position Profile
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Clinical Nurse to join our dedicated team and provide clinical and professional expertise and operational leadership and support to nursing staff, ensuring the delivery of exceptional care to our young patients.
Reporting to the Clinical Nurse Manager, you will facilitate and promote patient safety and quality of care through provision of professional development and mentoring to nursing staff, assisting with upskilling, and competency assessment.
As a valued clinical resource, you will apply your sound knowledge and experience in Oncology and Haematology, and support nursing, medical and allied health teams to problem solve, trouble shoot and direct staff to resources as part of care for critically unwell patients and their families.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing evidence-based nursing care and individual case management, including assessment, intervention, and evaluation.
- Ensuring patient safety and quality of care through planning, coordinating, performing, facilitating, and evaluating the delivery of patient care.
- Monitoring, reviewing, and reporting upon the standard of nursing practice, ensuring adherence to clinical pathways, policies, procedures, and risk management approaches.
- Participating in ward rounds/case conferences and educate patients/carers in post-discharge management.
- Completing clinical documentation and undertake administrative/management tasks as required.
- Participating in departmental and other meetings to meet organisational and service objectives.
- Providing clinical supervision of nurses/midwives at Level 1 and/or Enrolled Nurses/Assistants in Nursing under your supervision.
Qualifications:
Applicants with relevant experience in adult care will be provided the opportunity for clinical support and education to enable a smooth transition into the paediatric practice environment.
Candidates must be eligible for registration in the category of Registered Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
