Job description

  • The position sits within the New England Brain Injury Rehabilitation Service (NEBIRS), which is located on the grounds of the Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital.
  • The role is supported by the Manager for clinical supervision, subject matter expertise, escalation of issues and the sharing of ideas.
  • The multi-disciplinary team provides additional peer support for consultation and advice regarding clinical risk, care planning and the provision of high quality care.
  • Staff members often develop supervision relationships with similar therapists at other Brain Injury units. An education and training plan will be established specific to meet the needs of the successful candidate.
  • Tamworth, with a population of 60,000 is a modern progressive city set in a picturesque backdrop of tree covered mountains. It is a family friendly city, offering a broad range of experiences from sport and lifestyle, art and culture, music and entertainment, cafes and restaurants and weekend adventures.
  • Tamworth is located about halfway between Sydney and Brisbane, providing ease of access with 6 daily flights.


About the role:

  • The role provides an exciting opportunity to make a real difference by providing and coordinating psychology based interventions.
  • The successful candidate will form part of a multidisciplinary team aiming to provide high quality specialist brain injury rehabilitation services to adults (16-65 years) accepted as clients to the New England Brain Injury Rehabilitation Service (NEBIRS).
  • NEBIRS provides a community-based service, including use of a Transitional Living Unit to people living in the Northern aspect of the Hunter New England Local Health District.


About you:

  • You will bring exceptional communication skills and the ability to build therapeutic relationships, assess risk and perform psychology assessments.
  • You will work well within a multidisciplinary team and have an understanding of working within a community setting.

Rural Health Workforce Incentive Scheme:This vacancy is eligible for an Attraction and Relocation package that includes the following*:  

  • Attraction incentive paid as a Rural and Regional fortnightly allowance of up to $10,000 for the first 12-months 
  • Retention incentive of up to $5,000 thereafter annually 
  • PLUS 3 months accommodation assistance (e.g. rent payments, mortgage re-payments, payments for commercial accommodation) 

*All payments and reimbursements made to part time employees will be on a pro-rata basis.  

Attraction incentives will be paid as a Rural and Regional fortnightly allowance on top of your base salary. 

Other forms of payment/package options (where you are eligible) need to be negotiated with the Convenor and may include**:    

  • Additional annual professional development days (up to 5 more per year) 
  • Additional personal leave (up to 5 more per year) 
  • Computer/internet reimbursement (e.g. laptop, wi-fi costs) 
  • Return airfare to and from your work base (or equivalent motor vehicle allowance) so you can still visit family and friends 

**The total value of your incentive package would remain the same. Employees are responsible for seeking independent financial advice before accepting an Attraction and Retention Incentive package as part of their offer.   


Requirements:

  • AHPRA Registration as a Psychologist
  • Generally registered as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia with area of practice endorsement in clinical psychology and/or neuropsychology.
  • Completion of an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council accredited postgraduate clinical psychology qualification of no less than two years full time duration or recognised equivalent, displayed on the Psychology Board of Australia website.
  • Psychology Board Approved Supervisor status or working towards the same.
  • Current eligibility to drive in NSW and the ability and willingness to travel for work purposes which may involve driving long distances.

  • An eligibility list will be created for future permanent part time and temporary part time vacancies.
