BreastScreen is a multi-disciplinary team that provides breast screening and assessment services to women over 40 years old. The Clinical Nurse is responsible for performing clinical examinations and providing education and counselling prior to, during and after mammography screening and assessment

• Temporary Part-time (0.8FTE) opportunity for up to 12 months

About the role

This role is responsible for planning coordinating and providing advanced Breast Care knowledge, education and support to patients with breast disease from the point of diagnosis, through treatment, rehabilitation, follow up, palliative care in accordance with recognised clinical practice guidelines. The position will work within the multidisciplinary model of cancer care and work in partnership with service providers in acute and community settings, promoting breast awareness.

This role provides a service which incorporates the rural communities in Gatton, Esk, Laidley and Boonah through the provision of education and information about beast awareness clinics and assisting breast cancer support groups.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Registered Nurse with at least five years post registration experience in either surgical or medical oncology, ideally with at least three years' experience as a Breast Care Nurse, or related discipline.
  • Relevant post graduate qualifications in Breast Care nursing or cancer nursing (minimum first unit of the post graduate certificate, with willingness if deemed necessary to complete the post graduate certificate in Breast Care nursing). If no formal education in Breast Care nursing, then an active understanding that they will be encouraged and supported by the McGrath Foundation and their HHS to obtain post- graduate qualifications in Breast Care studies. This will require the BCN to commence in the role within the McGrath Foundation Associate Pathway.
  • Demonstrated high level of competence and expertise in advanced practice with respect to the management of women with breast cancer/oncology nursing/women's health within acute and community settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide advanced clinical skills in counselling and health education to the multidisciplinary team to the client, their families and the community.
  • High level verbal and written communication skills together with high level interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, plan and evaluate local service improvement with commitment to total quality framework, management and improve health outcomes through project management, organisational and planning skills.
