The Role
The Accountant / Commercial Analyst is primarily responsible for budgeting, forecasting, and business analysis for three product groups: Academic, Education (including Hotmaths), and English. The role involves close collaboration across all business functions and plays a vital role in developing budgets and business planning across the organization.
Key responsibilities:
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Create detailed business analysis, identify risks and opportunities, and propose solutions for the three product groups.
- Financial Reporting: Assist in monthly P&L reporting for all profit centers, explaining major variances to budgets or forecasts.
- Financial Analysis: Prepare P&L, Balance Sheet, and monthly balance sheet reconciliations for Hotmaths, including uploading to BPC.
- Stock Reporting and Data Management
- Financial Modeling and stakeholder engagement
- Business Analytics: Develop insights on profit center performance, product analysis, and distribution channels to support budgeting, forecasting, and business decisions.
- Process Improvement, audit support and accounts payable
- Compliance: Provide ad hoc assistance with annual return lodgements and periodic compliance/risk assessments.
- 3 + years experience as a Commercial Accountant/Analyst in a professional setting
- Experience in financial reporting, analysis, and financial management
- Understanding of challenges facing not-for-profit entities, particularly within the publishing industry
- Exceptional verbal and written communication
- Familiarity with ERP systems, especially SAP
- Strong Relationship-building, creative thinking and problem-solving skills
- Strong financial, numerical, analytical, and reporting capabilities
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a cohesive team
