ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Commercial Manager plays a pivotal role in shaping customer proposals during the bidding phase, ensuring alignment with Fluence’s commercial standards and broader regulatory compliance. This role involves driving the process for commercial topics to ensure optimal contractual, finance, insurance, legal and tax outcomes for new BESS projects. This role requires a background in project controlling and contracts, preferably working with large turnkey projects in the energy or construction sectors.
This new role will be joining a growing team and be focussed on opportunities ranging from long term service contracts to full turnkey EPC bids with values to $750 million AUD.
Major Responsibilities:
- Lead commercial and financial negotiations during the bid phase, collaborating closely with the proposal team including legal, engineering, sales leads and procurement.
- Support the sales team in achieving financial targets with precision and care, focusing on project profitability, cash flow, and risk management.
- Actively manage contractual risks and opportunities to package acceptable outcomes and coordinate internal approval processes.
- Coordinate with Tax and Treasury teams to optimise deal structures, cash flow and currency considerations.
- Oversee logistics, customs and insurance topics in conjunction with subject matter experts.
- Negotiate project security packages including parent company guarantees, bonds and bank guarantees.
- Engage with financial institutions to facilitate project financing solutions.
- Lead the forecasting and management of orders, cash flow, margins and revenue for upcoming projects.
- Ensure a smooth transition during the handover stage to the project execution team for commercial topics.
- Some ad hoc travel required domestically and potentially across APAC region.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years managing large-scale projects is required, preferably in the energy, infrastructure or construction sectors.
- Demonstrated experience in contracting structures including EPC, D&C, LTSA with requisite contract drafting knowledge.
- Proven expertise in contract negotiation and project risk management.
- Proficient in project management practices.
- Proven ability to engage with senior leadership.
- Exceptional organisational and time management skills.
- A proactive, energetic individual with a keen appetite for knowledge and problem-solving.
Required Education and Training:
• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (Business, Law, Finance, Accounting, Engineering or Construction Management).
• Relevant work experience in a related industry including energy, engineering, or construction.
