The OpportunityAn exciting opportunity has become available for a Commercial Manager with Australia’s largest engineering consultancy working in the Project Services Team.
The Commercial Manager's role is to undertake pre-contracts, contract delivery and project performance across a broad range of projects, including high-profile city-shaping and nation-building projects, within the Australian business. The role will work closely with the senior leadership, legal, other commercial resources, operations, bid and delivery teams. The role is critical to the negotiation of contractual agreements in bid preparation and development. This is a 12-month contract position.
Main Activities and Responsibilities: (including but not limited to)
- Commercial reviews and negotiations of contracts and other project documents across our broad range of projects and clients.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of contractual risk identification, mitigation, and negotiation skills across a range of different forms of contract.
- Ability to communicate contractual principles and risks to internal stakeholders, including senior leaders and global head office.
- Work with WSP’s in-house legal team on contract reviews to make sound commercial decisions on contractual risk.
- Build relationships with the Client Directors, Commercial Team and Corporate Legal Counsel to leverage skills, and ensure consistency and business efficiency.
- Monitoring key contract risks and delivering contract administration rigour into our project management approach.
- Assist our performance team in resolving commercial issues to ensure we maximise commercial outcomes on our projects and align with the financial strategy of the business.
- Maintain and promote compliance to WSP governance practices and best practice principles.
- Development of documentation as required for internal approval processes.
- Assist in developing a high level of commercial awareness within the business

Experience, skills and organisational knowledge
- Degree in Finance, Law, or Business Studies, along with appropriate professional experience (preferred)
- Demonstrated experience in commercial negotiations for infrastructure projects
- Ability to understand, articulate and achieve an effective commercial outcome
- Excellent communication, relationship management and influencing skills.
- Ability to summarise, present and report on contractual risk to senior stakeholders.
- Ability to adapt and respond to change.
- Ability to build strong business relationships and work collaboratively with clients
- Strong commercial and business acumen
