Not your typical legal role, this role will suit someone who understands business and has a commercial mindset. You will receive great assistance and training from a supportive General Manager; however, this role is very autonomous and requires someone who is confident in managing their own workload and in the decisions, they are making for the business.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Aid in resolving disputes related to the business, which could include, but not limited to contracts, intellectual property, employment and safety.
- Advise the business on legal matters to prevent disputes arising, this can include ensuring the business is complying with all regulations, managing liability issues, and assessing risks.
- Draft legal documents relevant to business operations, for both internal and external matters.
- Represent the business when matters escalate to court proceedings, including engaging in negations to reach settlements when required.
- Developing various types of agreements, such as contracts, shareholder and partner agreements, and lease agreements.
- Work with third party contractors and consultants to achieve the desired business outcomes.
- Provide advice and counsel to the board on contractual agreements.
Skills and Experience
- Bachelor of Law, with a minimum 3-5 years’ post admission experience.
- Significant litigation experience preferred.
- Completed practical legal training including coursework and work experience.
- Previous experience drafting legal documents and advisory skills.
- Ability to analyse intricate legal matters, evaluate evidence and formulate effective strategies.
- The ability to work autonomously.
- Excellent commercial acumen with an understanding on how medium to large businesses operate.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, with the ability to confidently make decisions.
