About us

Curtin University - Goldfields University Departments of Rural Health (GUDRH)

University Departments of Rural Health (also known as UDRHs) are academic centres based in rural and remote Australia.  Established in 2023, the Goldfields University Department of Rural Health (GUDRH) aims to strengthen the supply, capability, and impact of healthcare graduates in the Goldfields region and in doing so, help address healthcare disparities in our rural communities.

Operated by Curtin University in collaboration with the Western Australia Country Health Service and the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Western Operations), GUDRH receives funding from the Department of Health and Aged Care under the Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) Program.
The GUDRH's focus is multifaceted and includes:

  1. Raising awareness of, and fostering access to, health science careers
  2. Providing enriching and positive rural placements for current health science students
  3. Supporting the enhancement of local health professionals’ capabilities, especially in the area of clinical supervision
  4. Conducting rurally relevant research
  5. Expansion of health science degrees and qualifications on offer at the Kalgoorlie Campus.
The activities of the GUDRH are underpinned by interprofessional learning to promote collaborative care practices, vital for maximising rural health care outcomes. The GUDRH also prioritises education in the area of Aboriginal health and wellbeing, culturally safe ways of working, and the place of traditional medicine, to help support improved health outcomes for Aboriginal communities.

As a recently established entity within Curtin University's Faculty of Health Sciences, the GUDRH is at a key point in its evolution. Our progressive and supportive team is part of a Faculty that educates more health professionals than any other Western Australian tertiary institution. The recruitment of suitably qualified, experienced, and dedicated teaching, academic, and professional staff is critical to our ongoing success.
