About the Law Council of Australia
The Law Council of Australia represents the legal profession at the national level, to speak on behalf of its Constituent Bodies on national issues, and to promote the administration of justice, access to justice and general improvement of the law.
The Law Council advises governments, courts, and federal agencies on ways in which the law and the justice system can be improved for the benefit of the community. The Law Council also represents the Australian legal profession overseas and maintains close relationships with legal professional bodies throughout the world.
The Law Council was established in 1933 and represents 16 Australian state and territory law societies and bar associations and the Law Firms Australia, which are known collectively as the Council’s Constituent Bodies. The Secretariat serves the Law Council nationally and is based in Canberra.
This role also encompasses work for LAWASIA which is a regional association of lawyers, judges, jurists and legal organisations, which advocates for the interests and concerns of the Asia Pacific legal profession.
About the Role
Working to the Digital and Marketing Advisor, the Communications Coordinator will undertake a broad range of communication activities.
This work includes assisting with the development of internal and external material, which may extend to researching information and providing writing assistance as required promoting the organisation and its work to key stakeholder groups.
The Communications Coordinator’s work also extends to the provision of general communication, marketing, and public relations activities including the provision of desktop publishing and website support.
This role also encompasses work for LAWASIA which is a regional association of lawyers, judges, jurists and legal organisations, which advocates for the interests and concerns of the Asia Pacific legal profession.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain the Law Council website and other administered sites (LCA, Section and LAWASIA microsites) including the development, management and delivery of some content.
  • Assist with maintaining the Law Council’s social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin).
  • Provide support with the design and implementation of website and branding projects.
  • Write and prepare communications material for internal and external audiences on multiple digital and traditional platforms.
  • Administer reporting on website analytics and social media analytics.
  • Provide assistance in the production and distribution of corporate materials, Division reports, business papers and publications.
  • Coordinate the John Koowarta Scholarship and assist with other Law Council and Section scholarships and awards as required.
  • Assist with promoting and marketing corporate events.
  • Assist with the graphic design requirements of the Public Affairs and Communications Division.
  • Assist with the creation and distribution of Law Council marketing materials – EDM’s, marketing plans, etc and support the Sections and LAWASIA with their communication and marketing materials when required.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of communication strategies, campaigns and projects (i.e. Website redevelopment, digital communication);
  • Provide additional administrative support for the Public Affairs and Communications Division.
  • Aid in the research of speeches, speaking points, presentations, and briefing notes (as required).
  • Foster relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain corporate knowledge.
  • Work as part of a small team of specialist corporate communication staff.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Selection Criteria
  • Relevant tertiary qualification with 2-3 years’ experience in a related communications field, particularly corporate communication, public relations, or journalism.
  • Demonstrated research skills.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated project management and administrative skills.
  • Computer/software skills (Microsoft suite, Adobe Creative – Indesign and Photoshop and access database).
  • Web skills – knowledge of HTML and web content management.
  • Experience in working for a peak body association or not for profit organisation.
  • Knowledge of the Australian legal system and its legal profession.
