Women's Health In the North (WHIN) is the women’s health promotion and advocacy organisation for the northern metropolitan region of Melbourne. WHIN is a not-for-profit member-based organisation committed to improving the health, safety and wellbeing of women and gender-diverse people. WHIN works to eliminate gender inequalities and improve the health, safety and wellbeing of women and gender-diverse people. We do this through leadership, advocacy, training, research and strategic partnerships.
The Communications Officer — Digital Media develops, updates and monitors content for all of WHIN’s digital platforms, including the WHIN website, social media platforms, e-Newsletters and other platforms as needed. The role also assists the Communications Coordinator on other tasks as required such as development the WHIN Communications Style Guide, WHIN Annual Report and WHIN Communications Strategy.
Duties include:
- Develop, update, and publish WHIN website content
- Work with the Communications Coordinator and WHIN’s website consultants to oversee website design and functionality as our needs and strategies change
- Coordinate, source content, edit, and publish WHIN’s monthly e-News and one-off EDMs
- Edit and/or proof WHIN’s specific health promotion e-newsletters
- Develop or source content for WHIN’s social media platforms. Current platforms include Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and Twitter/X
- Analyse and report on communications activity including analysis of website and social media engagement as required by Communications Coordinator.
- Ensure that all digital and print communications, including WHIN website, e-News, social media, and publications align with the WHIN Communications Style Guide
- Assists with development of the WHIN Annual Report, WHIN Communications Strategy and WHIN Style Guide as required.
Key selection criteria:
- Ability to write clearly, concisely, and engagingly for a range of professional, government and community audiences including those for whom English is a second language, and tailor writing to a range of digital platforms
- An eye for detail and ability to ensure all communications are factually correct, consistent, functional (e.g. working links) and grammatically correct
- Relevant qualifications in communications or related fields
- Knowledge and experience with developing and maintaining websites, including content development and use of WordPress
- Demonstrable experience in developing, editing, and publishing electronic newsletters and EDMs, including the use of Mailchimp
- Demonstrable experience in creating engaging content for social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X and YouTube)
- Ability to learn and adapt to new digital technologies and platforms as they emerge, including to their language and culture
- Commitment to WHIN’s vision, mission, and values, including an understanding of, and commitment to, intersectional feminism, gender equity and women’s health, safety, and wellbeing.
Graphic design (e.g. use of Canva and/or InDesign) and website user interface design skills are both highly desirable.
Knowledge of Melbourne’s northern metropolitan region highly desirable.

- Salary 3% above the award

- The organisation offers employees the opportunity of salary packaging of up to $16,050 per annum ($30K grossed up). Salary packaging increases the value of the net salary (depending on personal taxation situation). (Salary packaging is subject to legislative requirements and in accordance with WHIN’s policy.)
- In addition to four weeks annual leave, staff are granted a further three days leave (grace-in-favour days) across the Christmas/New Year period
