The Community Engagement worker at Townsville Multicultural Support Group (TMSG) works in collaboration with the Head to Health Adult Mental Health Hub and NEAMI National consortia. This position will have reporting obligations to both Head to Health Adult Mental Health Hub management and the TMSG Operations Manager and CEO relating to the delivery of the Adult Mental Health Hub contractual obligations aligned with case management support services.
The Community Engagement position aims to work with the local CALD communities to raise awareness of and access to timely mental health support services. This position will work with the local CALD communities to build the knowledge and skills to increase mental health care for people living with high levels of stress, moderate, severe, complex and trauma related health conditions to enable greater social and economic participation and contribution to the local community.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Demonstrated knowledge of local community services and experience in collaborating, networking, stakeholder management, and liaison skills within a complex mental health and/or human services environment.
- Experience in planning, developing, and implementing an annual Community Engagement Plan in collaboration with contractual obligations.
- Experience in working with people from diverse backgrounds to ensure that Community Engagement work undertaken is culturally sensitive and appropriate.
- Demonstrated capacity to plan and facilitate group information sessions on key topics of relevance to the client group in partnership with external community services in a sensitive and cultural appropriate manner.
- Demonstrated capacity to work as an integrated team member where diverse skills, language and cultural backgrounds make a significant contribution to the formation of ideas, information, and plans.
- Demonstrated capacity to work within budget and reporting guidelines.
- Willingness to undertake professional development with a plan to implement learning into own practice and share with team members.
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Human Services or Community Development.
- Ability to communicate in another language other than English.

- Develop and implement mental health awareness and engagement strategies for moderate, complex, stress and trauma clients within local CALD communities.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of an annual Community Engagement Plan.
- Develop and implement a calendar of activities.
- Communicate regularly with, build, and maintain collaborative networks and partnerships across the broader community, including attendance and active participation in community events.
- Deliver mental health promotion, educational activities, and social support programs to local CALD communities.
- Maintain and update TMSG social and broad media outlets.
- Work collaboratively with staff at the Adult Mental Health Hub.
- Develop and maintain an environment that is welcoming, respectful, and accessible to individuals and families from local CALD communities.
- Work to achieve that Strategic Pillars as stated in the TMSG Strategic Plan 2023 – 24 aligned with contractual obligations to build the skills and knowledge to enable social and economic well-being of refugees, migrants and local CALD communities.
