About The Position

Location: Clare or Port Augusta 

Status: Multiple Positions - both Full Time and Part Time 

Closing Date for Applications: 24th July 2024

The Community Mental Health Program provides psychological support including goal setting, transition planning, and assistance to transition to NDIS services. This is achieved through flexible and intensive case management to support individuals to reduce levels of distress and improve their wellbeing.

As the Community Mental Health Support Worker, you will provide personalised support services and recovery-orientated care to people living with mental ill-health in the community, with a focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.  You will work collaboratively with clients to achieve their recovery goals through one-to-one support, shared services, workshops, and group work.

You will:

  • Work with clients to develop independent living skills and a meaningful life.
  • Purposefully engage with clients using intervention, motivational, trauma informed and conflict resolution techniques.
  • Provide support to families and carers by facilitating family and carer meetings where relevant.
  • Support clients to source and retain safe, affordable, and sustainable housing.
  • Undertake group work.

It is desirable for you to have:

  • Experience and expertise in working directly with people with Mental Health issues, complex needs and with their families and carers.
  • Strong relationship building and communication skills.
  • Awareness and understanding of the NDIS.

It is essential for you to have: 

  • Current Australian Drivers Licence.
  • Current NDIS Worker Check.
  • Relevant experience, in a paid or voluntary capacity.
  • A minimum Certificate IV qualification in a Human Services related discipline (e.g. Mental Health, Peer Work) or a willingness to work towards a qualification.

A tertiary qualification will be highly regarded.

You may also need to be available for some out of hours work and travel between Uniting Country SA sites or interstate as required.
