About the positionReporting to the Team Leader Environmental Health and Inspections, this position is responsible for delivering services to make the City of Tea Tree Gully a safe place for people and animals. These services include educating the community on Community Safety matters, while also providing high quality inspectorial services. Previous experience in handling dogs and cats and/or animal behaviour will be highly regarded.
Key responsibilities are:
- Undertaking a range of audit, inspection, surveillance activities and proactive strategies to maximise compliance for a safer community, including the duties of an authorised officer pursuant to relevant Acts and legislation.
- Under general direction, the role is accountable for ensuring compliance with the relevant Acts and By-laws with a focus on education.
- Delivering educational programs to a variety of community groups and individuals relating to:
- Responsible animal ownership
- Compliance and Community Safety awareness
- Other inspection functions

About youThe successful applicant will have:
- Innovative thinking and a practical approach to problem solving and negotiation that facilitates positive Community Safety outcomes.
- Planning and prioritising skills and meeting competing deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with the community and stakeholders.
- Ability to use initiative and work with minimum supervision.
- Strong understanding of regulatory obligations and compliance requirements related to Community Safety.
- Experience navigating Acts relevant to Community Safety functions, such as Dog & Cat Management Act, Local Government Act, Local Government (Parking) Regulations, Private Parking Areas Act and Local Nuisance and Litter Control Act.
- A current Police Check or the willingness to obtain one.
- Be willing to undergo a pre-employment medical.

Salary range is between $77,959 - $83,656 plus superannuation guarantee and will be negotiated commensurate with skills, experience and qualifications.
