New South Wales Police Legacy (NSWPL) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to caring for the Police Family since 1987. NSWPL has eleven employees, overseen by a Board of Directors.

About the role

ABOUT THE COMMUNITY SUPPORT MANAGERS ROLE

The Community Support Manager plays a crucial role in the delivery of NSWPL’s mission and policies.   

The Community Support Manager leads a team to deliver support, services and programs that focus on the needs of families who have suffered a loss.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Leading and managing the day-to-day operations of the Community Support Team. 
  • Policy development and review in consultation with the Chief Operating Officer. 
  • Developing, implementing, delivering, and evaluating programs to assist NSWPL beneficiaries to live fulfilling lives with the best possible social outcomes. Initiatives and programs must promote and support the physical and emotional health and wellbeing of legatees. 
  • Implementation of risk mitigation strategies and policies that will assist to prevent beneficiary health and wellbeing issues. 
  • Provide targeted support and programs that focus on the needs of children and youth. 
  • Administration and due diligence for the processing of Scholarships, Education, Welfare and Special Assistance Grants 
  • Ensure all benefits and services financial documentation, receipts and records are maintained, stored and/or disposed of in accordance with relevant legislation and policy. 
  • Adhere to budget and financial reporting requirements. Ensure correct and appropriate use of funds for welfare and financial support of beneficiaries including Trust Funds, Scholarships, Grants and Police Benevolent Fund applications in line with policy and with appropriate documentation. 
  • Provide reporting with analysis, commentary and recommendations to the Chief Operating Officer and Board of Directors. 
  • Ensure appropriate marketing collateral is in place for the promotion of benefits and services. 
  • Build relationships and work closely with internal and external stakeholders to determine priorities for support and services provided; acting on these in accordance with the NSW Police Legacy mission, policy and procedures.

TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE ROLE YOU MUST BE ABLE TO DEMONSTRATE THAT YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in behavioural sciences or allied health with a minimum of 5 years’ experience
  • Background in welfare/counselling/social work/grief and bereavement
  • Proven background in developing and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to think broadly and holistically and a high level of interpersonal skills.
  • Proven leadership and management skills
  • Good working knowledge of not-for-profit environment, including government benefits and compliance requirements of organisations in the sector.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, 

The role is both office and field based requiring the incumbent to work autonomously and at times remotely, applicants must hold a valid driver’s license.

 

Before starting work with NSW Police Legacy, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
