About the Role

Provide psycho-social support services to young people between the ages of 17 and 22 who show signs and symptoms of mental illness while homeless or at risk of homelessness. This is a full time, 6 month role (with possibility to extend) within a community-based homeless youth service, Ngatti House, based in Fremantle.

The successful candidate will have a Certificate IV in Mental Health, previous experience working with youth and Mental Health crisis support and be passionate about providing trauma informed support to young people.

You will be required to work shifts from either 7:30am – 3:30pm or 2:30pm to 10:30pm across a 7 day rotating roster.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide individualised support, helping to establish routine and structure.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining appropriate accommodation.
  • Coach and mentor consumers in day-to-day life skills
  • Actively participate in recreational, educational, and culturally appropriate supports
  • Support consumers to develop their support plans in partnership key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with consumers and other supports to coordinate the delivery of services.
  • Monitor and maintain accurate case notes, up to date case plans and files.
  • Observe and record the client's behaviour, needs and interactions with others.

 Skills & Experience

  • A Certificate IV in Mental Health
  • Previous experience working with people with Mental Health issues.
  • Ability to positively engage and work with people with complex needs.
  • Experience working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Understanding of the Recovery Framework and the underlying principles
  • Current First Aid Certificate 
  • Current Driver Licence

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including a National Criminal History Record Check.

To be considered for and appointed to a position at Life Without Barriers, you must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with a minimum of two (2) doses or hold a valid medical exemption certificate, in accordance with Life Without Barriers Employee COVID-19 Vaccination Policy.
