About the role:
NRC Australia is currently hiring for an experienced Construction Manager to join the Digital Systems Program (DSP) with our client, Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW). Since 2018, we have been a key partner to TfNSW, bringing together technical and operational functions to deliver a European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2 railway with Traffic Management Systems (TMS) for TfNSW's heavy rail network.
The Construction Manager will support the Trackside Integrated Delivery Team by providing guidance on the construction phase of the Digital System Program. You will be the point of contact for construction related activities such as installation methodology and ensuring a direct interface is maintained with the Sydney Trains Asset Management Teams.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in construction management on signalling and infrastructure projects and the confidence to apply their technical expertise in a consultancy environment.
What you will be involved in:
- Work with the Project Managers and Technical Managers to establish the Integrated Delivery Teams construction-based priorities and ensure focus is maintained on delivery and high-risk areas.
- Provide construction guidance for the Trackside systems and infrastructure plus support the technical function to ensure the integration of the Trackside works with the other sub-systems.
- Provide construction advice, assisting the Project Engineers on due diligence reviews of supplier submissions considering compliance with statute, system design, national and international standards, and industry practice.
- Provide construction methodology advice for planning the implementation of Trackside systems to support the introduction of ETCS Level 2 onto the Sydney Trains network.
- Carry out necessary site and safety inspections on new site works to ensure adherence to design, standards, and compliant construction methodology.
- Support the Testing Team in reviewing testing procedures and methodology (e.g. inspection test plan).
Experience & Qualifications:
Essential
- Strong background in construction management on signalling and infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated experience of delivering rail projects to successful completion on time.
- Ability to promptly investigate safety related issues and recommend the implementation of corrective actions.
- Strong attention to detail and highly developed report writing ability.
- Ability to prioritise work and manage time effectively among competing priorities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to listen and communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders and accurately capture, interpret, and implement agreed changes as required.
Desirable
- Experience of working with Trackside ETCS systems on railway signalling projects
- Membership of a relevant professional body.
- Experience during the development and entry into service phase of new rail infrastructure.
- Knowledge/experience of working in the Australian rail industry.
- Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer working towards Chartered status.
