Rail & Technology Systems – Construction Manager
The Opportunity
You will play an active role in driving efficiency and high performance across our talented signaling construction team, who are responsible for the planning and delivery of all aspects of construction, test and commissioning within our VIC Rail & Technology Systems business.
Key responsibilities include
- Ensure construction activities are delivered to the highest standards of safety, quality, cost, and ensure schedule deadlines are met.
- Plan and stage construction work, both greenfield and brownfield in an operating railway environment.
- Provide leadership, direction, supervision and inspirational management to all team members (direct & indirect).
- Manage the selection and training of all team members, building a high skilled, performance focused, innovative, passionate team.
- Establish appropriate and effective KPI’s for all direct team members that allow performance to be clearly measured.
- Interface with other senior management and engineering functions.
- Ensure enough resources (personnel, plant and equipment) are provided on all projects. Forecast future resource requirements and assist with onboarding of new starters.
- Engaging with key clients and ensuring a solid relationship is built and client deliverables are met by the team
- Undertake any adhoc projects, initiatives, tasks as directed by the Senior Project Manager
- Manage the fleet on behalf of the Senior Project Manager and liaise with the Fleet department as necessary
- Manage and oversee operations of maintenance depot (warehouse and offices), including management of the materials inventory.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience managing electrical construction activities on rail project sites
- Strong communication skills (oral & written) including strong negotiation and influencing skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders at different levels both internally and externally.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently to organise and prioritize demands, handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously, set and meet deadlines and follow-through within a fast-paced environment with multiple and competing demands.
- Proficient skills in computers: MS Word, Excel, email.
