The Role and our Branch
We are a small team engaging directly with the Catholic and independent non-government school sector about regulation of non-government schools, international education and community-based course providers. Our regulatory responsibilities include assessment of applications for entirely new schools, renewal of registration of existing schools and the establishment of new campuses. In undertaking our role we have a strong focus on child safety and standard of education in schools.
The team also assesses applications for compulsory-aged students seeking exemptions from attending school and responds to the ongoing obligations of non-government schools including monitoring school responses to reportable incidents and changes of governing body member notifications. Executive support is also provided to the Minister for Education's Non-Government School Planning Advisory Panel, a panel that provides advice to the Minister on matters related to establishing new schools and making significant changes to existing schools.
Further detail about us can be found here: Non-government school registration including the Regulatory Statement
We encourage all applicants with diverse professional experiences to apply.
We are seeking individuals who are enthusiastic self-starters, eager to learn and able to take on challenges in a customer focussed regulatory environment. Further professional development and mentoring in regulatory practice, if required, will be available to those seeking to transition to this rewarding career opportunity. As you will be working within a team environment and liaising with schools and key stakeholders, strong interpersonal and communication skills are important attributes.
Cultural Diversity
The Department is an equal opportunity employer and encourages people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and persons from culturally diverse backgrounds to apply.
Your written application will be assessed against the following Selection Criteria:
- Demonstrated relevant interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to consult, collaborate and liaise effectively with senior managers, schools, officers from other agencies and members of the public.
