Contract Manager – Operations

About the role

The Contract Manager - Operations, positioned within our Operations function, is responsible for managing a variety of expenditure contracts. This role supports financial, strategic planning, analysis, stakeholder, and supplier engagement, and drives process improvements and risk reduction within Operations.

Key Accountabilities include:

  • Collaborating closely with Operational Managers, Finance, Legal, Procurement, and Contractors/Suppliers to ensure cost-effective delivery of goods and services in line with key performance indicators.
  • Proactively identifying and managing contract risks to meet organisational obligations and achieve planned contract outcomes.
  • Following a structured contract management approach and methodology to deliver and realise improved outcomes for Operations leaders, their staff, and customers.
  • Administering contracts following approved Contract Management Plans and procedures and updating contracts and contract details to maintain the integrity of contract information.
  • Establishing and maintaining stakeholder and supplier relationships to identify and minimise risks and maximise contract value.
  • Supporting Operations leaders (relationship managers of many contracts) in driving operational improvements with suppliers.

About you

You bring comprehensive contract management expertise, with previous experience in an operational contract management role where you were responsible for managing contracts end-to-end, including the development of Contract Management Plans. 

Additionally, you have a sharp eye for detail and excel at delivering thorough analyses of trends and risks. You bring innovative ideas and identify opportunities for continuous improvement, working both independently and collaboratively within a team.

Our ideal candidate will possess the following (along with the above points):

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, capable of communicating contract management principles and processes to a wide range of audiences, including those without a contract management background. 
  • Strong ability to understand, analyse, and report on trends and contract activities.
  • Familiarity with working in a compliant and highly regulated environment.
  • Proven experience in cost control within the contractual space, adept at managing costs within contract-approved limits.

Remuneration for this position will be in line with the V/Line Rail Operations and Administrative Employees Agreement 2019 and is in the range of SNR OFF D01-D03 ($114,258.65 - $121,506.18). Current employees are expected to remain in their role for a minimum of 12 months before applying to new positions within V/Line.
