Douglas Shire Council are hiring exceptional individuals, who are looking for a challenge to help the Shire to Restore Paradise following the devastating impacts of Tropical Cyclone Jasper.
In an unprecedented weather event, the Douglas Shire was impacted by Tropical Cyclone Jasper in December 2023. Recovery work has been extensive and intense, and our beautiful Shire continues to shine as we welcome back visitors and restore confidence in our world-class destination.
As the Shire continues its disaster recovery efforts, several new roles have been created with Douglas Shire Council to undertake the important work of rebuilding Queensland's tropical haven, including this role - Coordinator Procurement.
The purpose and function of the role is to coordinate Council's procurement and contract management activities ensuring corporate goals and objectives are achieved. You will develop and review procurement policies and procedures ensuring compliance with Local Government Legislation and Statutory requirements, establish and rationalise key supplier agreements, identify new opportunities and seek ways to improve efficiencies which continuously improve the organisation's procurement processes.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will be required to use your proven procurement experience, ideally in a Local Government setting however solid corporate experience is acceptable. Additionally, you have ability to interpret contracts and legislation to perform effectively within a complex and politically sensitive environment. Your demonstrated ability to influence widely and communicate confidently across a multi-functional organisation along with your ability to bring others on the journey will set you up for success.
Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or considerable knowledge and expertise in procurement or other related disciplines are essential. This is a broad role offering the chance to support the CFO, present reports and coach/mentor staff while taking on large procurement projects over the next 2-3 years.
