Melville Glades Golf Club, one of Perth’s leading Private Golf Clubs is seeking a Greenkeeper/ Course caretaker to join the course maintenance team.
Position Description
Caretaker Groundsman/ Greenkeeper
Definition The Golf Course Caretaker Groundsman, lives on site and is to assist the Course Superintendent and Assistant Course Superintendent with the maintenance, operation and security of the golf course.
General Responsibility He is responsible for:
- Assisting as directed with the maintenance of the golf course
- Assisting where possible with the maintenance and repair of maintenance equipment
- Ensuring the security of the Course, including all building and buggy sheds, after hours
- Rendering knowledge and advice, opinions, assistance and services to the Course Superintendent
Reporting The Caretaker Groundsman reports directly to the Assistant Course Superintendent and Course Superintendent
Primary Functions The Caretaker Groundsman accepts responsibility for maintaining golf Club property, including, but not limited to:
- The golf course
- Maintenance equipment
- Clubhouse grounds and gardens
- All buggy sheds
- Carparks
- All areas within the confines of the Club’s fences
- The verges outside the front entrance, and the entry statement
- Turf farm and greens nursery
The Caretaker Groundsman also accepts responsibility for the following functions, including, but not limited to:
- Assisting with construction and renovations as directed
- The proper use of all club equipment
- Undertake accurate reporting and application of chemicals, pesticides, fertilizers, wetting agents and other materials that are part of their training and understanding, to provide the best results for the golf course
- Keeping accurate and complete timesheet and payroll records, weather data, maintenance procedures, pesticide applications, fertilising programs etc
Additional Functions The Caretaker Groundsman assumes the following additional responsibilities:
- Act as first point of contact for all telephone calls from the Security Monitoring Centre (SMC), for out of business hours alarms, either via the fixed cottage phone or via personal mobile phone.
- Respond to calls from the SMC and investigate cause of alarm
- If intrusion to Clubhouse is established, the Course Superintendent and General Manager are to be informed immediately. The Course Superintendent and General Manager are to be informed, the next working day, of all other alarms. A logbook of all alarm occurrences is to be kept in The Cottage.
- Hand water dry areas requiring additional watering
- Carry out pump issues as requested by Course Superintendent
- Act as emergency contact for any urgent course requirements. The Course Super should be contacted in all instances.
- Should the tenant be unavailable to undertake any of the above duties for reasons of sickness, absence, prior commitment, or the like, the Course Superintendent and General Manager are to be informed immediately. Normally prior arrangements are to be made with the Course Superintendent.
- Communicating regularly with the Course Superintendent and Assistant Course Superintendent regarding activities, goals, plans and member feedback.
Employment Standards It is essential that the Caretaker Groundsman possesses the following attributes:
- An acceptable knowledge of agronomy and turf grass management practices; and a reasonable understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf.
- Reasonable knowledge of federal, state and local laws and regulations affecting the management of golf course operations (including but not limited to employment, safety environmental standards, laws and regulations)
- A desire to participate in continuing education opportunities such as directed
