Our Client is a well-established Law Firm, based in Cleveland, with a reputation of providing high end legal services to our clients in most areas of law. They are conveniently located next to the Cleveland Police Station and the Cleveland Magistrates Court, and have on-site car parking facilities.
They have a strong, long standing client base, since commencing business operations in 2007. The directors of the firm pride themselves on upholding real family values and ensuring staff do not work outside normal business hours - unless absolutely necessary.
An outstanding opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Criminal Law Solicitor to join our team.
The role will include:
Working closely alongside the Managing Director, and two (2) legal assistants in the Criminal Law and Domestic Violence department of the Practice; and
Appearing in the Cleveland Magistrates Court as Criminal Law Duty Lawyer (one week every month) and as the Domestic Violence Duty Lawyer (a couple days per month); and
The successful applicant will also be required to regularly appear in other Magistrate, District and Supreme Courts, throughout the state of Queensland; and
Working alongside Barristers as well as other stakeholders, such as the Police Prosecution, Director of Public Prosecution, Court staff, forensic psychologists etc; and
The work will consist of a fairly equal split of private paying and legal aid clients; and
The position requires a full time candidate to work 5 days a week, from 8.30am to 5pm.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will:
Be highly motivated, driven to work autonomously and be a team player; and
Need to appear in all Courts throughout Queensland (but predominantly, Cleveland); and
Need to be a clear and concise advocate; and
Be able to consider the evidence of the Prosecution against the law and case law authorities and be able to give a detailed legal opinion; and
Have good writing and computer skills;
Be able to brief a Barrister with clear and concise instructions.
Qualifications and Skills:
Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Solicitor; and
A good knowledge and experience in Criminal Law and domestic violence matters; and
Proficiency in drafting.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively liaise with referrers, clients, and other stakeholders.
