Brett Smith & Co Solicitors is a longstanding firm based in Ipswich, offering legal services to clients both privately and as a preferred supplier of Legal Aid Queensland. We practice across many areas of law, but primarily focus on Family Law, Criminal Law, Domestic Violence matters, Conveyancing and Wills and Estates.
We are seeking an experienced Solicitor to join our expanding team, to work primarily in the areas of Family Law, Criminal Law and Domestic Violence matters.
Who are we looking for?
The successful candidate will have:
- 2 years' P.A.E., preferably already holding an unrestricted practicing experience
- Experience in Family Law, Criminal Law and Domestic Violence matters – experience in other areas is a bonus
- The ability to take over carriage of some of the firm’s existing work as well as new files (both legally aided and private matters) with confidence, effectively balancing time management and customer service
- The ability to prepare and file your own Court material (with the assistance of a Legal Assistant as needed)
- A high attention to detail
- The ability to work autonomously/with minimal supervision, and knowledge of when to seek the assistance and/or advice from more senior practitioners in the firm
- Proven experience in conducting thorough work from initial advice through to completion
- The ability to work well with others, both in the office and external colleagues and a desire to engage in networking opportunities to help grow the firm
- Long term career goals, particularly within the areas of Family Law, Criminal Law and Domestic Violence matters
The firm
Our firm has been practicing from its Ipswich location for over 45 years, proudly offering legal services in just about every area of the Law. We do not focus on billable hours but do expect that our staff manage their time effectively, ensuring a smooth and prompt service for all clients.
Our staff will support the successful applicant while they transition into the team to take over existing files or take on new files as ready and will take the time to introduce you to all clients and colleagues as necessary.

- Whether you hold a current Drivers Licence and own or have access to a car for the purposes of travel to and from various Courts;
- Confirmation that you hold a current Australian Legal Practicing Certificate, and whether you are subject to any restrictions (including what those are)
