POSITION OVERVIEW:
An opportunity exists for a highly motivated lawyer to join a reputable and well-established Legal Practice. We look to employ a solicitor with strong advocacy, interpersonal and organisational skills, who is eager to engage with clients from all walks of life. Our preferred candidate will also have the skills required to work in a fast-paced environment and the ability to adapt to the diversity of a country practice. This role presents a terrific opportunity to train and develop in the criminal law.
Some criminal law experience will be an advantage.
ABOUT THE BUSINESS AND THE ROLE
Stephen Peterson Lawyers is an LIV Accredited Criminal Law Specialist firm. We have extensive experience across a range of practice areas including:
- Criminal Law – summary and indictable
- Childrens’ Court Criminal Division
- Childrens’ Court Family Division
- Traffic Offences
- Victims of Crime
- Intervention Orders
The team at Stephen Peterson Lawyers are committed to providing high quality, professional legal services. We have a strong focus on advocacy and provision of continuity to our clients.
Your role will include the following;
- Appear as an advocate in various courts including the Magistrates Court and both divisions of the Children's Court
- Independent management of files
- Conduct appointments, telephone conferences, video-link appearances and interviews
- Engage with clients, stakeholders and other members of the profession
- Work alongside administrative support staff to manage workload, client communication and calendar commitments
Salary commensurate with experience.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:
- Admitted as a legal practitioner in Victoria.
- Holder of a driver’s licence
- Capacity to manage a criminal law case load and provide in court advocacy (including remotely)
- Knowledge of the law and court procedures with a focus on criminal and childrens law jurisdictions
- Sound interpersonal skills and the capacity to communicate effectively with all stakeholders
- The ability to work collaboratively with others and to foster a co-operative and supportive team environment.
- Demonstrate strong problem-solving and negotiation skills.
