This varied full-time permanent role is to support the cattle manager in ensuring equipment is in excellent working condition, maintaining and repairing as required, livestock is well cared for, fed, identified for illness and treated accordingly. Ad hoc cropping assistance to ensure that there is backup as required.
The position is based approx. 2 hours northeast of Port Hedland on a live on site basis.
You'll need a minimum of 5 years in a similar role, with experience in the emergency and preventative measures of farm equipment, experience with cattle and dealing with illness in animals. Experience in crop maintenance is an advantage.
Duties include, but not limited to -
- Manage and maintain farm and feedlot equipment i.e. feed tractor, telehandler, feed mill tractor, feed wagon.
- Conduct regular biosecurity inspections and maintain records.
- Operation of farm and feedlot equipment on a daily basis.
- Prepare and distribute cattle feed.
- Maintain and update farm records.
- Inspect cattle for illness.
- Separate sick animals from the feed pen.
- Treat sick animals.
- Feed animals.
- Check and maintain water quality.
- Check and maintain feed bunk cleanliness.
- Identifying and treating pest and weed problems.
- Apply pesticides, fertilizers and herbicides as required.
You must be able to -
- Inspect, diagnose and repair farm equipment.
- Ability to identify and treat illness in animals.
- Must have knowledge in fertilising, pest/weed control.
