The Crop and Livestock Farmer employment role at Nightwell Pty Ltd is responsible for managing, planning, organize, control, coordinate and perform the cultivation of crops and the raising of livestock on all properties owned by Nightwell Pty Ltd.
Their main duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:1. Crop farming:
- Planning and implementing crop production activities, including land preparation, planting, fertilization, irrigation, and pest control.
- Monitoring crop growth and health, and taking necessary actions to ensure optimal yield and quality.
- Harvesting crops at the right time and using appropriate techniques.
- Managing crop storage, post-harvest handling, and transportation.2.
Livestock farming:
- Raising and caring for livestock, such as but not limited to, sheep, cattle, and working dogs.
- Providing proper nutrition, housing, and healthcare to the animals.
- Breeding and reproduction management, including artificial insemination or natural mating.
- Monitoring and managing animal health, including vaccinations, deworming, and disease prevention.
- Handling tasks such as milking, shearing, or egg collection, depending on the type of livestock.3.
Farm management:
- Assist in planning and organizing farm operations, including crop rotation, grazing management, and pasture maintenance.
- Managing farm resources, such as land, water, and equipment, to ensure efficient and sustainable production.
- Implementing and maintaining farm infrastructure, such as fences, sheds, and irrigation systems.
- Keeping records of farm activities, including crop yields, livestock performance, and financial transactions.
- Monitoring market trends and prices, and making informed decisions regarding Crop and Livestock sales.4.
Equipment and machinery operation:
- Operating and maintaining farm machinery and equipment, such as tractors, harvesters, sprayers, spreaders and irrigation systems.
- Ensuring proper maintenance and repair of machinery to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency.5.
Compliance with regulations:
- Adhering to local, state, and federal regulations related to Crop and Livestock farming, including environmental, health, and safety standards.
- Keeping up-to-date with industry best practices and technological advancements in Crop and Livestock production.6.
Marketing and sales:
- Identifying market opportunities and developing strategies to sell crops and Livestock products.
- Establishing relationships with buyers, distributors, and other stakeholders in the agricultural industry.
- Participating in farmers' markets, trade shows, or other events to promote and sell farm products.
A Crop and Livestock Farmer must have a strong understanding of agricultural practices, animal husbandry, crop science, and business management. They should possess physical stamina, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Additionally, they should be adaptable to changing weather conditions and have a passion for sustainable and responsible farming practices.
Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years' experience or equivalent qualifications in the industry and DL, PC & WC.
