We are seeking a 1st in class Senior Internal Review Specialist to join our Personal Injury Team.  This team is responsible for resolving Internal Reviews that arise in Motor Accident Injuries Act (MAIA CTP) claims in a fair, transparent, robust and timely manner.

The ‘SeniorInternal ReviewSpecialist’ (MAIA CTP) - role exists to support the efficient and effective operation of the Personal Injury Dispute Resolution Team and its members, by undertaking a range of independent review functions under the Motor Accidents Injuries Act 2017.

The role would be suitable for an experienced professional with CTP Claims or Legal experience. As there are also medical Internal Reviews, the role would also be an exciting opportunity for an experienced allied health professional to utilise their clinical expertise, decision-making and writing skills to transition into an insurance role.

What you’ll do

  • The Senior Dispute Resolution Specialist is a senior member of the PICR Leadership team.
  • You will Support the Leader in leading a team of staff responsible for conducting independent Internal Reviews for personal injury claimants in the NSW Compulsory Third Party scheme (CTP) and ACT Motor Accident Injury (MAI) schemes.
  • Key SCRS objectives includes Team Workflow, Team Meetings and Team Quality Assurance monitoring and reporting.
    • Support the Team in undertaking its work, with key SCRS objectives including to undertake complex, novel, controversial, sensitive and/or urgent Internal Reviews requiring the application of the skills, experience and expertise of the SCRS.
    • Support the Leader in leading our people, with key SCRS objectives including staff member Onboarding, Mentoring, Training, Development, and Peer Reviews of team members work.
  • Stay up-to-date with relevant legislative amendments, and decisions of the Personal Injury Commission and the NSW Courts to ensure compliance with any changing requirements and/or application of the relevant legislation.
  • Involvement in monitoring claim trends and preparing reports on any trends identified to assist in the effectiveness of the claims process.

What you’ll bring

  • Extensive Insurance Claims experience, preferably in the NSW CTP MAIA scheme.
  • Qualifications in Law, Insurance, Medical, Allied Health or related disciplines.
  • Qualifications and/or experience in Dispute Resolution and/or complaints handling.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation.
  • High level of attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Strong legal and technical skills, particularly in an insurance setting.
  • Decision making, problem solving and reason writing experience.
  • Ability to hit the ground running and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, in particular the ability to communicate technical legal terms/findings in ‘plain English’ to customers.
  • Having a genuine customer focused approach.  
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to Team engagement and training.
  • Ability to identify and respond appropriately to common, new or novel issues arising in claims decisions and Internal Reviews, to deliver claimant centric approaches that best support the goals and objectives of the personal injury schemes we work within.
  • Ability to help support and maintain a high performing culture and team, identify and remove blockages, operationalise strategy, translate vision into tangible and measurable goals and actions, hold effective conversations, coach and develop people, and challenge whilst maintaining good working relationships.
  • Ability to help support a strong team culture of continuous self improvement, both within the team environment and within the broader personal injury schemes we work within, to identify opportunities for system, process, product and service improvements.
  • Ability to engage and communicate effectively, using influence and persuasion as appropriate, to proactively manage relationships with claimants, team members, internal stakeholders, and external stakeholders.
