Brightside Recruitment is partnering with a specialist family violence organisation based in Melbourne. This organisation is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation, serving the community over 30 years. They are dedicated to providing advocacy and support for the empowerment of Aboriginal women, children, young people, and the wider community.
Role
The Aboriginal Healing Unit (AHU) Cultural Support Worker plays a vital role in delivering holistic and culturally sensitive support services to eligible Aboriginal women within the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre (DPFC) or other designated locations.
The role sees you provide culturally appropriate support, case planning, and advocacy for Aboriginal women. You'll work collaboratively with the AHU team on case and support plan development and assist in coordination and assertive engagement activities.
The post carries responsibilities to ensure accurate and timely data recording in client record management systems and to identify and make appropriate referrals to other service providers. You will also liaise with Corrections Victoria staff during the pre and post-release client journey.
Criteria
- Passion for supporting Aboriginal women's social and emotional wellbeing.
- Knowledge of Aboriginal culture, history, and self-determination applied in a contemporary context.
- Demonstrated connection to the community is desirable.
- Relevant vocational qualification (Certificate in Community Services or Diploma) or equivalent professional experience.
- Lived experience of navigating service systems, particularly with people in prison.
- Understanding of primary and allied health services, alcohol and other drug treatment services, mental health services, employment, education, and training options.
- Ability to collaborate effectively to identify and address service and client needs.
- Proficient in building and maintaining professional relationships with individuals who have experienced incarceration.
- Current Working with Children’s Check.
- Current Victorian Police Check.
- Mandatory COVID-19 vaccination for workers.
- Commitment to inclusivity and protection of children's rights.
