Experience Gold Coast
On 1 September 2023, HOTA joined Experience Gold Coast, a super entity which combines HOTA, Study Gold Coast, Destination Gold Coast, Placemakers* and Major Events Gold Coast in an exciting new chapter. This will see the city’s tourism, events, education, arts and culture portfolios working as one organisation focused on delivering exceptional outcomes for the city.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Director of Gallery and Visual Arts, the Curatorial and Engagement Manager is responsible for leading the development and implementation of an exceptional program of visual arts exhibitions and experiences throughout HOTA Gallery and the wider precinct, including the supervision and mentorship of the Curatorial and Engagement team.
You will play a leading role in contributing to an innovate and integrated creative program, providing advice on external funding opportunities and preparing exhibition briefs, proposals and associated publications.
As part of the HOTA Senior Management Team, you will lead the implementation of policies and procedures across HOTA and effectively collaborate with senior management across the organisation.
Above all you will be a champion of arts and culture on the Gold Coast and embrace the growing ambition of HOTA.
Key Responsibilities
- To oversee, develop and curate imaginative and distinctive exhibitions and projects for display and tour, including working closely with artists, the city collection, and external sources in line with the vision and strategic outcomes of EGC and HOTA.
- Collaboration with the Exhibitions and Collections Manager, and exhibitions and collections team to ensure a high standard of display and presentation of the collection, exhibitions and projects.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiating and communication skills to engage stakeholders including artists, donors, sponsors, EGC Board and HOTA management.
- The ability to supervise, develop and mentor the Curatorial and program team, including through professional development and regular feedback.
- Representation of HOTA at speaking engagements, external judging panels, committees and industry related forums and events as required.
- Development and nurturing of a strong and broad network of strategic relationships to benefit EGC and HOTA's continued growth and development in the visual arts.
Skills and Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in Gallery or museum environment.
- A tertiary qualification in visual art, curatorship and / or museum studies.
- Experience managing a public building and infrastructure.
- Significant knowledge of gallery operations and experience in working with the National Standards of Australian Museums and Galleries.
- A working knowledge and experience using Vernon Collections Management System or similar is desirable.
- Current QLD Police check (or willingness to obtain).
