Aruna Vale Pty Ltd is a dairy and beef cattle farm located just west of Victor Harbor. We milk 360 cows twice a day, all year round in a 32 unit herringbone dairy. Calving occurs once a year from March to May, and both silage and hay are produced from October - December. Beef cattle are also run on the property.
About the Role
This is a casual milking role, offering 15 -25 hours per week and involves all general day to day milking and calf rearing activities.
There is an opportunity to pick up extra milking shifts during calving (March – May) and potentially some general farm work for the right candidate. Some weekend work will be required.
We are seeking a committed, team oriented and proactive person to join our team. Dairy experience is highly desirable, however on the job training will be provided for any new entrants to the industry.
Pay Rate: $32 per hour (Monday to Friday), $36 per hour (Saturday) and $42 per hour (Sunday).
Responsibilities:
- Round up cows to the dairy using a quad bike.
- Operate milking plant and equipment.
- Monitor herd health and treat mastitis, teat damage, lameness and heat detection.
- Follow procedures for plant cleaning and the shutdown process.
- Calf rearing, including feeding, monitoring general health and growth.
- Assist with cattle mustering and drafting.
Personal Qualities & Experience
- Experience milking cows is desirable; however on the job training is available.
- Keen, enthusiastic and reliable person who is interested in working in the dairy industry.
- Desire to work with animals (experience working with animals is a bonus).
- Punctuality.
- Ability to work with limited supervision, and in a team environment.
- Good attention to detail.
- A good level of physical fitness.
- Must have car and driver’s licence.
- Willingness to work weekends is a must.
