About Us?
The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated/integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region. 

The Preventative Health team is responsible for developing and implementing strategies aimed at addressing the risk factors for chronic disease in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.  Deadly Choices is arguably Australia’s strongest Indigenous created brand that encourages Indigenous people to be healthy role models for family, friends and broader community networks. 

About the Role?
As a Deadly Choices Team Coordinator for our Cairns team, you will be responsible for leading a small team of Program Officers to ensure high quality delivery of Our Community based health education, promotion, and prevention activities. This is a great opportunity to work in a small team and work within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. 
Within your role, you will be required to: 

  • Coordinate the development, implementation, and review of a range of health education, promotion and prevention activities.
  • Contributing to Regional Action plans which provide a structured plan for program delivery and develop performance targets.
  • Work with CCHS to identify and strengthen internal referral pathways between services and programs and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Develop effective partnerships with community, school and ACCHS to enable efficient use of resources and integration of activities. 

About You?
Under S25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous. A Confirmation of Aboriginality may be required from the successful appointee.

  • Current C Class Driver’s License (QLD)
  • Ability to travel across the designated region as required.
  • Current Blue Card (prior to commencement)

Desirable, but not mandatory:

  • Certificate III or above in Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care – Community Care or equivalent (or willingness to undertake)
  • Previous experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities.
  • Previous experience in leading a small team
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certificate
