The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated/integrated approach to the planning, development, and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region.
The Deadly Choices Strategy in combination with consortium members across Queensland and the Deadly Choices brand and programs are widely recognised as a cutting-edge health promotion and education initiatives.
About the Role?
As a DC Program Officer for our Rockhampton region, you will be responsible for the delivery of school and community-based health education, promotion and prevention activities. This is a great opportunity to work in a small team and work within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Within this position, you will be required to perform the following duties:
- Build and maintain strong relationships and provide culturally appropriate services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Assist in the logistics and delivery of the Deadly Choices education program in schools and communities.
- Undertake and promote CCHS services and refer participants for Aboriginal Health Checks, to other health programs and clinical advice for chronic diseases as appropriate.
- Undertake the effective facilitation, instruction and role modelling of key health messages and Deadly Choices education program modules, including Leadership, chronic disease, physical activity, nutrition, harmful substances, tobacco and smoking cessation, Medicare access to Primary Health CareUndertake the distribution of program surveys and their collection and ensure appropriate records of all program activities are maintained.
About You?
To perform this role, it is essential that the incumbent is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.
- Current C Class Driver’s License (QLD)
- Ability to travel across the designated region as required.
- Valid Working with Children Blue Card (prior to commencement)
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate (Willingness to obtain)
- Current Criminal History Check (Willingness to obtain)
Desirable, but not mandatory:
- Previous experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities.
- Strong knowledge or proficient in Microsoft (Word, Excel etc.)
