Job description

Yulu-Burri-Ba is currently seeking a highly motivated Deadly Choices Program Officer to join our Deadly Choices team!

The Yulu-Burri-Ba Aboriginal Corporation for Community Health (Yulu-Burri-Ba) provides a safe, friendly, confidential, and culturally appropriate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary and Social Wellbeing Health programs in line with community needs. It is our vision to empower our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and community to achieve excellence in their healthcare outcomes.  Yulu-Burri-Ba has clinics at Capalaba, Dunwich on North Stradbroke Island and Wynnum.

It is a genuine occupational requirement, under Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, Section 25 that this role be filled by a person who identifies as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.

Please note:  To be considered for and appointed to any position at Yulu-Burri-Ba, you must:

  • Have a Queensland Working with Children Blue Card (Paid Blue Card)
  • Preparedness to undertake VET Training including Cert IV in Fitness

The roles and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Work in ways which are ethically, culturally and respectfully proper; fostering integrity in our conduct and actions by matching our ways with the values of Yulu-Burri-Ba.
  • Uphold client confidentiality, ensuring their right to privacy with information only being shared where consents are provided.
  • As directed, conduct, and support a range of health education, promotion, and prevention activities across a designated region
  • Program Delivery and undertake the effective facilitation, instruction and role modelling of key health messages and Deadly Choices education programs.
  • Delivery of Further Preventative Health Activities
  • Delivery of Community Days & Clinic Support Activities
  • Staff Training and Clinic Process Improvement
  • Delivery of Staff Training Workshops
  • Marketing and Promotions

Essential:·        Ability to work sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, their leaders and health professionals, while respecting traditional culture, values, and ways of doing business.

·        Ability to work on weekends and after-hours.

·        Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and actively contribute to the team.

·        The ability to work with other health professionals and organisations.

·        Demonstrated understanding of the health, social and emotional wellbeing needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

·        Interpersonal skills that demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate, negotiate and liaise with clients and members of the community, general and technical staff in the provision of professional quality client service.

·        Demonstrated ability to deliver health promotion programs to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander target groups in the target area.

·        Demonstrated commitment to maintain a healthy lifestyle and to engage and encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to commit to lifestyle change.

·        Demonstrated competence in use of technology and desktop applications: internet, word, spreadsheet, and database packages.

·        Good communication and interpersonal skills

PRACTICAL REQUIREMENTS

·        Travel across Yulu-Burri-Ba clinics (Capalaba, Wynnum and North Stradbroke Island) may be required

·        Satisfactory current Criminal History Check or willingness to obtain.

·        Current “C” Class Driver’s Licence valid in Queensland

·        Proof of Immunisation Status – or willingness to obtain as a matter of priority
