Job description

Job Reference: 1193709

Are you passionate about safeguarding national security and resilience within an academic setting? The National Resilience & Security (NRAS) Program Office at Curtin University is seeking a dedicated Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) Officer to play a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing the University's DISP accreditation and its engagement in national security initiatives.

Your Role and Impact

As a DISP Officer, you will provide crucial administrative support, ensuring the University not only maintains its current DISP accreditation but also expands its reach within the Defence Industry and national security sectors. Reporting directly to the NRAS Operations Manager, you will ensure that our operations are perfectly aligned with the strategic and tactical needs of our Research, Academic, and Faculty teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day security arrangements, promoting an enhanced security culture across the University.
  • Ensure compliance with all DISP principles and policy documents, aligning with national defence and Security Programs.
  • Maintain a robust system of risk oversight and management in collaboration with strategic partners within the University.
  • Safeguard sensitive and classified materials, fulfilling all DISP reporting obligations.
  • Act as a Security Officer, developing and implementing security policies and plans, and ensuring the University's adherence to defence requirements.
We're Looking for Someone Who:
  • Holds relevant graduate qualifications or has an equivalent combination of experience and training in security practices and management within complex organizations, preferably in a university, research centre, or Defence Industry environment.
  • Has demonstrated expertise in operations management, with exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Can effectively engage with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, building productive relationships and addressing security concerns proactively.
  • Possesses strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proven track record of enhancing security culture within an organisation.
Desirable Qualities:
  • Experience working with government and industry stakeholders in classified defence or national security domains.
  • A relevant postgraduate qualification or extensive knowledge of the University Research, Defence, and National Security sectors.
Essential Requirements:
  • The successful candidate will be required to obtain an Australian ‘NV-1’ level security Clearance, which includes comprehensive personal screenings. On commencement, a security clearance application must be submitted as a priority. Continued employment is contingent on a successful granting, and ongoing maintenance, of the clearance.
  • This role would normally be restricted to, and require you to maintain, Australian Citizenship. Consideration may be given to citizens of New Zealand, United States, Canada, or United Kingdom who have, or recently maintained a security clearance, if the clearance can be recognised by AGSVA.
To learn more about this opportunity please contact Gary Hale, Director, National Security & Resilience (NRAS) Program Office at *********@curtin.edu.au.
