The role:

Provide expert and authoritative advice under the direction of the Chief Pharmacist to support the operational and strategic direction of the Pharmaceutical Services Branch in response to, or anticipation of, complex and significant issues to support the judicious use of medicines, poisons and other substances.

The Deputy Chief Pharmacist:
• Provides high level regulatory advice in relation to the interpretation of legislation regulating the manufacture, distribution and use of medicines, poisons and therapeutic goods in Tasmania;
• Supports the Chief Pharmacist in the development of contemporary policies supporting the judicious use of medicines, poisons, and therapeutic goods in Tasmania;
• Manages compliance issues, including complex investigations, to ensure the safe distribution and use of medicines and poisons in Tasmania;
• Manages complex projects determined by state and national priorities
• Manages a team of professional and administrative staff.
Deputise for the Chief Pharmacist across the full scope of the role, exercising assigned statutory delegations and providing expert advice to the Department of Health and external stakeholders.

Details of Appointment

Permanent full time, day worker position working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant

  • Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies.

Salary: $158,888 to $160,211 per annum. Our Employer 11% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 7.5% based on qualification type
  • Professional Development Allowance of up to $500 per annum
  • Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No. 2 of 2022

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  1. Registered with the Pharmacy Board of Australia
  2. Tertiary qualification/program of study approved by the Pharmacy Board of Australia or completion of an overseas qualification eligible for skills assessment through the Australian Pharmacy Council.

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  1. Relevant postgraduate qualifications and/or extensive experience in health service administration, leadership, public policy and operations of government, and/or clinical or regulatory governance.
  2. At least five year’s practical experience as a registered pharmacist.
  3. Current Driver’s Licence.

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

  1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
  • crimes of violence
  • sex related offences
  • serious drug offences
  • crimes involving dishonesty
  1. Identification check
  2. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
