Deputy Directors have a high degree of autonomy and input. The APG Secretariat supports APG members and serves as a focal point for APG activities in providing secretariat services to APG members, the co-chairs and APG committees. The APG Secretariat is hosted by the Australian Federal Police in Australia.The core activities of the APG Secretariat include:
- Coordinating and leading mutual evaluations (an international peer-review mechanism) of APG member governments
- Coordinating Technical Assistance and training with donors and providers
- Providing expertise and research on money laundering, terrorist financing and financing the proliferation of WMD
- Providing advice and information to, and linkages between, international and regional agencies(especially financial, legal and law enforcement agencies) on AML/CFT/CPF matters;
- Organising and contributing to APG events and projects and attending and contributing to FATF events and projects
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with relevant international and regional organisations

Technical Assistance & Training provides leadership at international, regional, jurisdictional and sectoral levels. The position contributes at a high level to multi-jurisdictional and multi-disciplinary teams. APG
Deputy Directors represents the APG at regional and international forums.

Technical Assistance & Training works with all Secretariat staff, APG Co-Chairs, committee co-chairs, heads of delegations and the widest range of APG stakeholders to achieve the Secretariat's goals aligned with the
Technical Assistance & Training programme.The position of
Deputy Director,
Technical Assistance & Training encompasses a high degree of liaison with regional and international organisations as well as a culturally and functionally diverse range of officials across the Pacific region. Moreover,
Deputy Directors regularly interact with the FATF, government agencies cross the Asia-Pacific, major international organisations and providers of capacity building.As a
Deputy Director you also play a pivotal role in developing people, managing change and influencing behaviours that lead to a supportive culture that respects the perspectives, talents and value of each individual. Consistent with the AFP and APG values, AFP leadership philosophy, organisational reform agendas, AFP and APG corporate business plans and your Performance Development Agreement, the expectation is that you will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.
What will you do?APG
Deputy Directors produce high quality work in line with the APG's Business Plans and strategic priorities as follows:
- Providing professional leadership in, and improving the quality of APG's Technical Assistance and training programme for its members;
- Managing projects relating to AML/CFT/CPF policy, implementation and research as part of the Technical Assistance & Training team;
- Enhancing the skills of colleagues and team members through effective peer review and mentoring;
- Ensuring that key stakeholders (internal and external) are effectively managed and supported to achieve APG business; and
- Identifying strategic issues and matters of concern to the APG.
Essential Requirements- You must qualify to be able to live and work in Australia;
- A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one;
- A relevant university degree related to legal, law enforcement, international relations or finance;
- At least 5 years' project management / policy experience;
- Well-developed analytical and research skills;
- Advanced written and oral communication to a wide range of audiences;
- English language fluency at a professional level; and
- Ability to travel overseas.
Additional Information- National or International travel may be required.
- This role is located in Sydney and Canberra; however, hybrid working options may be negotiated.
