Job description

Advertised Vacancy Number: IPS/DP884036

This is a nine (9) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 2, 2024

Riverton Primary School (PS) is seeking a dynamic, positive Deputy Principal to join their supportive leadership team.

The successful applicant will work as an active leadership team member leading in several key areas focusing on effective classroom practice, the curriculum, data analysis, whole school approaches and building a thriving culture. In addition, the Deputy Principal should develop and establish meaningful relationships with our parents, who represent diverse communities of different cultural and language backgrounds, building our sense of community with inclusion as a strong focus.

Specifically, the ideal Deputy Principal will support the management of Students At Educational Risk (SAER) by leading and working with the SAER team members to help differentiate the curriculum to meet the needs of our students whilst providing oversight of and support for the extensive English as Additional Language Dialect (EA/LD) program operating at the school.

Leadership in the priority area of health and wellbeing across the whole campus is highly desirable, whilst a clear focus on and support for high-quality teaching will be integral to the role. The successful applicant will ideally take a proactive approach to staff performance development, underpinned by the growth coaching model, building capacity in the staff to implement inclusive and whole-school teaching practices across the school. The Deputy Principal will also have a significant role in developing leadership capacity across the school and will be responsible for leading the early childhood teams (K – 2).

The successful applicant should have high interpersonal skills and the capacity to build successful professional relationships with staff members across the campus and the whole school community. The successful applicant should possess the ability to plan, implement, monitor, and review the school programs using appropriately sourced data strategically and collaboratively. Sound knowledge of the WA curriculum and a solid pedagogical background is desirable.

The capacity to work effectively and collaboratively in a dynamic leadership team across both the mainstream and the Education Support Centre is highly desirable.

Riverton PS is an Independent Public School that operates on the same site as the Riverton Education Support Centre (ESC), with a unique “campus” approach. With a current enrolment of nearly 660 students, Riverton Primary continues to grow steadily. We are a local area school with a deservedly strong reputation in the district.

Enrolment is sought by parents from inside and outside the local residential area. The demographic structure of our families and students is very diverse, with a strong international flavour.

Our student population is diverse, with over 40 nationalities and languages. Consequently, we have a significant EAL/D component, employing specialist staff members to work with class teachers and students inside and outside the classrooms in various modes. We actively celebrate and embrace the diversity of cultures in different ways.

Our mainstream students are generally strong academically, with results in systemic tests in National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN), comparing favourably to our like schools. Our students are capable and responsive, with a high level of engagement with the school and a learning program guided by the current Western Australian Curriculum. Our programs and approach encapsulate our core values of inclusion, collaboration, excellence, innovation and positivity, with our well-established Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) inquiry approach embedded across the school.

We work closely and inclusively with the Riverton ESC, sharing the campus and interchanging staff and other resources across the two official schools. All of our students’ complete activities and share the facilities with an active integration program across the campus. Whilst students at our campus vary widely in their abilities, intellect, and outlook, they are inclusive of each other.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
