Our progressive Development Assessment and Certification department has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, innovative, and passionate planning specialist to join our high performing, vibrant and energetic team in the role of Development Planner.

With an appetite for growth and a passion for connectivity with our customers you will provide professional town planning services across a broad range of development control functions. You will assess a variety of significant development applications, meet KPIs, help our customers navigate the complexities of the planning environment, and ensure an exceptional customer experience.

You will play a critical part in our LGA’s unprecedented growth, working alongside inspiring leaders, likeminded professionals and key stakeholders across Council, the development industry and the community to deliver planning outcomes that make our city the place to live, work and play and ensure we can enable regional prosperity.

Your key responsibilities are:

  • Process and determine a broad range of development applications
  • Prepare reports, conduct site meetings and make presentations to the Regional Planning Panel, Urban Design Review Panel and Councillors,
  • Facilitate pre-lodgement consultation and prepare advice to customers
  • Coordinate responses on applications with the Department of Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure
  • Review EPIs, DCPs, Guidelines and Council codes and policies, as required
  • Represent Council at appeals and conferences held by the NSW Land and Environment Court
  • Provide duty planning support services as required

Our ideal candidate is an experienced planner who puts the customer at the centre of what they do and is passionate about educating and engaging with the development industry and our community to make a difference. You can manage a high-volume workload and have strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to articulate complex information into plain language. You have a can-do attitude and are solution focused, with the ability to negotiate, engage stakeholders early, and bring people along the planning journey with you. You have excellent analytical and problems solving skills with the ability to listen to reason, evaluate and articulate pragmatic solutions. You are collaborative and team orientated yet prepared to challenge and be flexible to shifting priorities.

Ideally, you will bring;

  • Degree or Graduate Diploma in Town Planning or other suitable qualification relevant to the field of expertise
  • Demonstrated customer experience focus
  • The ability to assess, determine and oversee a variety of development proposals, in an efficient manner and in accordance with legislative requirements
  • The ability to manage a heavy workload and plan, organise and prioritise tasks to meet agreed deadlines
  • Demonstrated professional written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively interact with a range of customers and stakeholders
  • The ability to influence others, negotiate and resolve conflict
  • Advanced report writing and proof-reading skills
