The role of Diesel Fitter is a key role in the maintenance of machinery owned by the company. The position requires both workshop and field duties in response to breakdowns and servicing offering a diversified role supporting earthmoving machinery from small plant through to 30t excavators. The role reports to a Workshop Manager and is also supported by 2 to 3 other workshop personnel controlling yard stock and mobile re-fuelling of plant.
Facilities include large workshop with overhead crane, vehicle hoist, bulk oil storage and delivery hosing and fabrication area with lathe, power saw and welding equipment.
Job tasks and responsibilities
Daily Coordination Meetings with Workshop Manager
Assist Workshop Manager with servicing planning and fault finding/problem solving
Coordinating and planning works for current and next days activities
Ensure that all works are completed to quality and safety expectations.
Fabrication of mechanical items, frames and stillages
Developing and creating a positive work environment for personnel.
Training and coaching of staff to assist in developing knowledgeable employees
Receipt and inspection of incoming goods
Review stock for upcoming services and advise of purchasing requirements.
Generate a team environment and impart company culture of supporting and assisting each other to achieve a common goal such that employees are happy to come to work.
Skills and experience
Minimum 10 years experience as Qualified Diesel Mechanic
Preference for existing knowledge and experience in earthmoving machinery maintenance and repair.
Ability to work within a team environment and generate a positive team culture.
Manufacturing or tooling experience using MMAW, GTAW, Oxy-Acetylene.
Motor vehicle and small plant experience.
