  • Beautiful Location | 10 minutes’ drive to Weipa with all facilities and great fishing!
  • Up to $145K + 12% Super + FMV + Accommodation

Highly rewarding, pivotal role where you can grow your team, streamline efficiencies, and continue driving further transformation & growth.

About Council

The Napranum Aboriginal Shire Council consists of the Mayor and four Councillors. The Executive Management Team is made up of the Chief Executive Officer and four senior managers. The annual budget for the Council is approx. $20 million and there are approximately 70 staff and a population of close to 1000. As reported, the NASC team have achieved exceptional strategic, operational, and financial results throughout the last financial year.

Napranum has become an increasingly prosperous community with modern facilities such as the Mary Ann Coconut library and Indigenous Knowledge Centre, Council office and Civic Centre, QLD Health, and allied health services, Aged and Disability Services including accommodation precinct, supermarket, a war memorial, Water Park, and Waterfront development including Café, workshops and many new houses built in the past ten years.

The Role

As the Director Corporate Services, you will report to the CEO, lead, and mentor a team of approximately 18 people in the Directorate which includes stores and procurement, information technology, strategic grants and project leadership, leasing, records management, and regulatory compliance to drive a commercial and customer focused service that builds capability and delivers accountability and sustainable performance.

A relatively new CEO and the completion of proposed structure changes, provides a platform for change and for innovation to be front and centre of the focus moving forward. With a mandate around business improvement there will be both the opportunity and challenge of continuing to drive a strategy to move things forward vs remaining in a reactive space. The role will also play a leadership role with the ELT to review key processes ensuring that they maximise efficiencies and take control of their budgets.

About You

With your financial knowledge and expertise combined with strong leadership skills you will bring an energetic and positive disposition to the role and be renowned for not only leading teams but for ‘working beside’ your team, ensuring a collaborative culture is evident. The team are keen to learn and get things done and more broadly you will ensure the ELT are supportive of each other in the quest to move things forward for both the Council and Community.

Setting objectives for yourself and others, you take a forward-looking perspective, and can deliver successful outcomes within agreed parameters. Optimising and developing business processes to enhance business outcomes, customer service, streamline operations and minimise costs will characterise your experience to date. Understandably, your strategic planning and management skills relative to an organisation the size of Council and the communication and interpersonal skills to engage with all levels of staff and external stakeholders will be evident in your experience to date.

Why this Role?

Whilst this could be viewed as a traditional Corporate Services role it is one where you can truly build your capability and have a genuine opportunity to make a difference. Driven by a strong sense of improving a community you will appreciate working for a CEO who is equally passionate about ‘delivering’ and who leads by example.

Located only 13kms outside Weipa, which is the largest town on the Western Cape York Peninsula, you will have a shopping precinct close by, access to a range of medical services and clinics and an airport that enables easy access to mainland cities. The community runs alongside the Embley River on the Western side of the Cape and is renowned for its stunning sunsets, fishing, and access to amenities.

Given the fresh energy and motivation the CEO is looking to bring into the role, he is open to someone ready to ‘step up’ providing they are suitably qualified and have a strong ‘hands on’ background in Financial Management within Local Government.
