Institutional Banking and Markets (IB&M) is responsible for managing the Group’s relationships with major corporate and government clients and institutional investors, and provides a full range of capital raising, transactional and risk management products and services. The division also performs an important internal role for the Group by providing markets, lending and transaction banking execution capabilities to other CBA business units that allows them to capture opportunities with business customers.

Capital Structuring is made up of a number of customer centric product specialists who partner with relationship bankers to originate, structure, execute and monitor lending & leasing facilities. We provide the core end to end product and pricing infrastructure supported by a disciplined approach to governance that enables us to manage financial and non-financial portfolio risks. The team includes Credit Portfolio Management, Structured Asset Finance, Securitisation, Private Equity & Structured Finance, Global Lending Product & Transformation, and Line 1 Operational Risk & Control.
Structured Asset Finance (SAF) forms part of the Capital Structuring (CapS) team within IB&M and combines strong corporate finance and transaction structuring expertise to solve complex strategic client problems across industry sectors. SAF provides innovative / bespoke finance solutions for business-critical revenue generating mostly moveable assets where the focus is on asset security or asset ownership. The core purpose of the Structured Asset Finance, EMA role is to join other technical experts to:
- Use your technical renewable energy transition experience to assist in the origination of structured asset finance transactions, both domestic and cross border.
- Use your direct technical capabilities and experience in the energy transition sector to identify risks and business development opportunities.
- Provide asset advisory and valuation services across renewable asset classes.
- Liaising with lawyers, other advisors and asset valuers
- Follow the framework and procedures for managing transactions over their life.
- Manage all necessary approval processes, in accordance with Bank policy.
- Identify risk mitigants are implemented and documented.
As an Director Equipment Management, you will be required to assist the Structured Asset Finance team to originate, structure and execute structured solutions across the IB&M client base.
In performing this role you will support the Bank’s strategy through the identification and execution of new SAF business opportunities; be responsible for supporting the origination, structuring and execution of SAF products;
build a network with OEMs, valuers and other market participants across the energy transition to deliver the Bank’s full value proposition whilst ensuring our regulatory requirements are met.
More specifically, you will:
- Through your expert renewable asset advice and practical energy transition industry experience you will support SAF transactions in asset classes used in the energy transition and decarbonisation of the economy. Additionally, use your understanding of the broader traditional asset classes being replaced by the renewable/circular economy to facilitate SAF transactions. Example asset classes include Zero Emission transport (buses, heavy vehicles), photovoltaic and energy storage technologies, smart meters and other types of energy efficient assets in addition to traditional transportation, logistics and manufacturing assets.
- Effective asset management, advisory, valuation, Equipment Management and risk management skills along with commercial acumen to support structured asset finance transactions including residual value risk positions, within specified time frames and to the highest standard.
- Provide oversight and management of assets / projects under construction working closely with project managers, building contractors, valuers and other interested stakeholders to be able to provide to the Bank an independent and impartial view and opinion of the project status and progress to date.
- Providing superior Equipment Management, asset advice and service aligned with the client’s needs and the Bank’s business objectives.
- Building strong relationships with OEMs, other valuers as well as Client Coverage and the broader Capital Structuring teams and other key internal stakeholders across the Group such as Market Risk Management to support the effective execution of SAF transactions.
- Assist in the credit analysis required to prepare credit submissions specifically the technical due-diligence of equipment and industry.

We want to hear from you if you have:
- Tertiary qualifications in a Renewable Energy, Engineering or related technical field with 10+ years relevant industry experience.
- Strong and established industry networks and relationships across both ‘old’ and ‘new’ economy assets.
- Business development experience via leveraging your technical skills would be advantageous.
- Commercial/contracting environment involving sales/purchasing or management of high value capital goods will be viewed favorably.
- Experience working in a consulting environment, including working closely with clients, contractors and equipment suppliers will be viewed favorably.
- High energy, able to operate at pace and bring a growth mindset.
- Strong attention to detail and a team player
- Understanding of structured asset finance transactions will be viewed favorably.
- Sound analytical, legal and numerical skills
- Accredited by the Australian Property Institute, ASA, RCIS or similar.
